Electrodes for welding high-alloy steels
How to correctly select stainless steel electrodes – making the right choice! Electrodes for welding high-alloy steels.
Stainless steel can be considered one of the most in-demand materials in manufacturing. The choice in favor of this material is made when high requirements are imposed on the quality of the pipeline.
In cases where the raw material being transported contains chemical substances that, upon contact with metal, can contribute to corrosion on carbon steel. Such industrial components or pipelines require the metal and the weld to be free from corrosion processes. We offer to buy electrodes for welding high-alloy steels.
An important factor when choosing stainless steel in manufacturing is its aesthetic appearance. The structure itself does not require additional painting, looks attractive, and is very durable.
How to choose correctly and which stainless steel electrodes to buy?
Stainless steel welds poorly, so for such metals, there are special welding electrodes capable of welding this metal. But how to choose the right electrode and how the welding of stainless steel with an electrode is carried out, we will discuss a little below.
Before performing welding work, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the metal being welded and the specific properties of stainless steel during welding.
-
- Stainless steel has lower thermal conductivity compared to other metals. From this, it can be recommended to heat the welding area more or apply an increased current during the welding process.
- When welding non-thin stainless steel, a gap slightly larger than in conventional welding should be left between the metals. These manipulations will help avoid microcracks in the weld.
- The worker during the welding process will notice greater heating of the welding electrode. This occurs due to the resistance of stainless steel to the welding process. It is precisely here that it is recommended to carry out welding of stainless steel with an electrode that complies with GOST.
Grades of stainless steel electrodes for inverters. Electrodes for welding high-alloy steels.
Grades such as OZL 8, OZL-6, TsT 15, NZh-13, ZIO-8, EA400/10U, EA 395/9, NII – 48g, OZL 17U, EA, OZL 25B have become widespread among stainless steel welding electrodes. The most frequently purchased by welders are TsL 11, OZL 8, OZL-6, TsT 15, NZh-13.
TsT 15 welding electrodes
The main coating of these electrodes is marble and fluorspar. TsT 15 electrodes contain Niobium in the coating composition (wire), which makes it possible to use these electrodes for welding stainless steel where requirements for increased corrosion resistance of the weld metal are imposed. They are used for steel grades in the food industry with a low degree of aggressive environment.
Recommended steels: 12Kh18N10T, 12Kh18N9T, 08Kh18N12T, 08Kh18N12B.
TsL 11 welding electrodes
If stainless steel has a high content of nickel and chromium, then in this case we recommend choosing TsL 11 welding electrodes. How to determine that the metal contains these inclusions? It is enough to look at the steel grade.
For example, stainless steel 08Kh18N12T and those with the last letter “B” contain these impurities – they create precisely these high corrosion properties and resistance of the metal. For such stainless steels, the most stringent requirements are imposed on the weld.
When welding stainless steel with an electrode of these grades, it is necessary to apply a temperature of +450°C with direct current. Why is this necessary? It is simple – the composition of the welding electrode contains fluoride components and carbonate. At the same time, welding stainless steel with TsL 11 electrodes can be performed in any spatial positions.
Advantages of the weld when welding with TsL 11 electrode
-
- Strong weld.
- Ductile.
- High impact toughness.
- Do not promote the formation of intercrystalline corrosion within the weld.
- Beautiful and aesthetic weld.
- During welding, there is no spontaneous spattering of the welding electrode core metal.
OZL 6 welding electrodes
If you need to buy stainless steel electrodes for welding metal that will subsequently be used at high temperatures up to 1000 degrees, then you need to choose stainless steel electrodes for inverters (for manual arc welding) OZL 6. Welding is performed with direct current. The characteristics of these electrodes are the same as those of TsL 11.
NZh 13 welding electrodes
For welding high-alloy metals made of food-grade steel, NZh 13 stainless steel electrodes for inverters are used. They can already weld not only metals with chromium and nickel impurities but also molybdenum.
Metal composition. Electrodes for welding high-alloy steels.
Before welding stainless steel with an electrode, it is worth knowing exactly the composition of the metal and its future operating environment. This will help you guarantee a positive result after welding and, as a result, a long service life for the structure.
